Longoria/c.santana for votto/machado

Thanks for the question. We need some more information. Can you post your roster, showing the positions you're currently filling and with whom, so that I can make a more informed judgement?

It would appear to me that if you have Mauer at catcher that you are starting Santana at 1b. So, the trade replaces Santana with Votto. It's a swap I love, but it does remove your roster versatility. But then you swap out Longoria with Machado. Not in love with this move. While it's true Longoria comes with a great deal of injury risk, he's also the far superior offensive talent. Machado's numbers thus far are aided by an unsustainable BABIP of .358. That number should normalize over the course of the year and bring his average way down. I'd rather ride the risk of Longoria. If you could replace Santana with Mauer I'd do it since I think Mauer is an empty talent.

Yes. I think Mauer is nothing but batting average. He doesn't steal bases and he had his one "wink-wink" power surge year that got him the contract. He's basically Ichiro without the stolen bases (which lets face it, where the real value in Ichiro) but he still possesses that name value for an elite catcher. Plus, he's trading Votto who's an elite batting average type of hitter so you might be able to sell him on the fact that he loses nothing (and perhaps even gains) in the batting average category even though he's trading Votto.
